The third place was at stake in the meet of Aussies and Gauls and it was a nail-biting game for sure. Australia worked out a 3-1 advantage in the beginning of the match but the French came back: in halftime the scoreboard showed 6-6. Genius Aaron Younger made an excellent hat-trick in the first half of the third quarter and it turned out to be very important for Elvis Fatovic’s team. Although France had the chance to equalize at the end, Australia finally kept its minor advantage. M11 Group C

The Spanish national team started the game very assertively in the pool and was surprised, that David Martin’s team scored the first goal. The World and Olympic champions then wake up and scored three goals in a row, bringing the first quarter to 3-1. In the continuation, the Serbs dominated the match and scored huge goals, while Branislav Mitrovic was defended very well in the back, so the World Champion led 5-2 at the half-time. The third act started with a huge Spanish goal, which brought a big strike, but however hard David Martin’s team was trying, the quarter was eventually won 3-2 by the favorite of the tournament, Serbia, which team started the goal line in the final quarter where they fired three and just got two, so the match was ended with a confident 11-4 Serbian success. Both team started relatively slowly the match. They made a lot of mistakes. The Croatian team was a little bit surprised by the Russians. But in the third period, the Croatian team started to play better and the level of the match increased. Finally, the more potential team won. M14 Group D

The first half ended with the score of 2-1, a result that may have satisfied Ashton Kutcher who visited the fifth match of the day. A sharp and fast Japanese team faced off the Americans who tried to dominate the game through their strength. In the second quarter Araki’s unbelievable solo attack brought us the 4th Japanese goal of the game, one that resulted in the score of 4-4. In the end, the Asian team managed to win the quarter. The tendence continued in the third quarter, the Americans could barely deal with Japan’s fast offensives that resulted in a stable lead for the team. The match ended with a strong Japanese hit and a victory for the Asian team. The two teams went neck to neck in the first half. After 3-3, Kazakhstan was able to take a two goal lead after a huge goal from Ukumanov, but Canada got back up and equalized just two seconds before the end of first half with a penalty. Kazakhstan applied pressure with Medvedev, while Canada did the same with Thumwood. Canada was able to win the third quarter after a quick counter attack. In the fourth period, Kazakhstan took over and turned the game around with two goals from Ukumanov. With that, they won this exciting game. M9 Group B

Today’s primetime game started badly for the host team as Italy scored twice quickly after the start, but Hungary equalized with goals from Varga and Vámos. After a high quality first quarter, there was 4-4 on the scoreboard. Italy capitalized on extramen situations in the first half, but on even strength situationts Hungary’s defense worked fine and Viktor Nagy made some spectacular saves. The host team first took the lead in the middle of the second period at 5-5, with an amazing goal from the captain Dénes Varga. A strange double red card exclusion happaned in this quarter as well, but Hungary could came out on top at half. Italy played really agressively on defense in the third period, Hungary could only score one goal and because of this, Italy had the lead in the beginning of the fourth quarter. The last period was a thriller, but at the end, neither team could come up victoriously, the final score was 9-9. Overall the game was really agressive, both teams had 3 excluded players.

The first quarter of the match was absolutely dominated by the national team of Montenegro, a dominance that resulted in a four point lead for the team by the end of the first part. Although the second part of the game was more balanced, Brazil didn’t have the power to break through, the second quarter was also won by Montenegro. The team’s lead grew steadily in the second half of the game. Montenegro closed Wednesday’s water polo session with a clear victory
